Why You SHOULD Invest In Owning Your Own Domain Name

Because it’s COOL! Come on! It almost makes you look official in a lot of circumstances. I’m not saying you’re not, but it’s a little extra icing on the wonderful Concept and Brand Cake that is your BUSINESS, if you have one.

Let’s face it, most people have the @hotmail, @yahoo or, these days, it’s likely to be @gmail. That’s good and that’s pretty necessary to have some sort of free account as a base account to get things going. There might be some personal emails in there. Some spam. Emails from back in the day that you haven’t gotten around to seeing if they’re important/relevant or not. Subscriptions. Memberships. Banks. Bills.

Having your own domain name, that is powered by also investing in some hosting at an affordable price, says that you’re invested in this and it’s important enough to you to put some kind of time, planning and money investment. If you can cut out one more middle man, it helps in the long run.

What comes up on occasion when applying for certain access to some companies is that your business email is required. Having the ability to set up an email address within a few minutes can be pretty useful. Sometimes you may want the silly mackdaddyolicious(at)ownmyownname.com (not real, so don’t even try it). If it’s what you have, it’s what you use, however, some businesses want to see the one that says CEO(at)OwnMyOwnName.com. It doesn’t even have to be THAT. It can be something as simple as (First Initial Last Name)@yourdomain.com, but you get the point.

The key to the whole thing is THIS: DO IT SOONER THAN LATER!

A friend of mine said something to me that’s very indicative of most people’s mindset; ‘I’ll prove myself first and then I’ll take care of that other stuff.’ This is a VERY admirable way of thinking.

You just have to remember that many have gone that route to only become a victim of cybersquatting. They go to court and spend a lot of money to only settle anyway. Do a search on it.

I’ll leave you with this; Why wait until you are famous and/or successful to try to secure your brand’s domain name, when the cost is so low per year? You may save a little here or there with whichever Domain Name Registrar you partner with. Compared to spending money in court (if you’re even able to do that), it’s way less expensive.

Take a look into it by clicking the banner below. I like Namecheap because the prices are relatively low and they offer FREE WhoisGuard privacy protection on your domain names.

If you use my banners, they’ll pay me a small portion at no extra cost to you. I definitely appreciate your support.

Whatever you choose to do and whomever you choose to do it with, the MAIN KEY IS: GET STARTED SOONER THAN LATER. Right now I offer PDF checklists for certain things that I feel people might want Screenshots with. I just believe this helps a little bit more with knowing what to expect when you get there. Sometimes the screenshots aren’t as necessary, but I’ll do my best in that regard.

Make sure you subscribe to the website and/or follow me on any of my social media accounts; whichever way works best for you to get any updates I might have.

I keep hearing of people whose preferred domain name, which may be some sort of nickname or stage name, had been taken. Sometimes it's even people they knew. Let me show you the step by step process to at least secure your preferred domain name, set up a custom email and quite possibly set up your own online presence, website, store or blog.
